The Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS)

The Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) has asked political leaders in Serbia not to exert pressure on the media and expressed its concern because of the statement made by the president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Tomislav Nikolic, who said that he would remove from position the general director of Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) "as soon as he wins power".

The Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) published the protest letter delivered to the Association by the editorial office of Kurir daily newspaper on the occasion of appearance of the President of UNS, Ljiljana Smajlovic, in the programme "OKO 11" and her opinion and comments about Kurir. The programme was aired on July 19 on the Channel 1 of Radio-Television Serbia.

The Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) welcomes the decriminalization of libel that is envisioned by the recently announced amendments to the Criminal Code. UNS also demands that the Article 336 A be also revoked. The Article forbids commenting on court proceedings until their completion. The Association also demands that harsher penalties be stipulated for infliction of light injuries to journalists.

The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS)

The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS) has submitted to the Higher Court in Belgrade a request for rehabilitation of journalists Slavko Curuvija, Zoran Lukovic and Srdjan Jankovic, who were sentenced to five months of prison each 12 years ago.
