The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS)

The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS) called on the media to respect ethical and professional standards defined by the Journalistic Code of Conduct while reporting on tragic events and accidents. The NUNS statement says that the Association was contacted by the mother of a person who had recently committed suicide, telling them that the deceased's family and friends were deeply hurt by the fact that the news about the suicide was published in a large number of media outlets under the title "Psychiatric Patient Commits Suicide". "Journalists and editors should especially avoid speculations and insufficiently verified opinions. Even if the authorities publish information that violates the victim's privacy, as was done in this case by a police official, the media must not report such information", says NUNS.

The Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS)

Ljiljana Smajlovic, the president of the Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS), said: "We are trying to find a way to help E-Novine, which has been cut off from the power grid by the Electrical Power Company, despite the fact that many others, who owe much larger sums of money, have not suffered any consequences. We are not fans of Petar Lukovic, but we are concerned because of destruction of one of the rare differing media outlets in Serbia."
